As the US is officially getting ready to establish its Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, following President Donald Trump’s Executive Order, it’s interesting to look at the top countries with their own Bitcoin holdings.
Coin Bureau shared a post via X earlier today, revealing the top nine countries that are officially holding Bitcoin.
Top 9 Bitcoin Holdings by Countries
1. China
According to Coin Bureau’s notes, China is the leader in Bitcoin holdings with 194,000 BTC worth over $1,7 billion at current prices of around $89,500 for BTC. The official data is as of December 12, 2024.
2. USA
The US reportedly holds 112,189 BTC currently worth over $10 billion. The US would have had over $17 billion more in BTC if it hadn’t sold its holdings over the past years. The US sold 195,000 BTC for around $366 million over the course of more years.
3. UK
The UK reportedly has 61,000 BTC worth around $5,5 billion at current prices.

6. El Salvador
El Salvador holds 6,103 BTC worth almost $548 million at current prices, according to its official Treasury website.
Last year in August, El Salvador announced a $1.6 billion record investment for their “Bitcoin City” to build a new port at La Union. This was the largest private investment in the country’s history.
7. Finland
According to Coin Bureau’s post, Finland currently holds 1,918 BTC worth over $171 million.
Recently, we revealed that the Genesis Terahash project in Finland, a facility that operates 100% on renewable energy, uses high-temperature miners to generate heat at 70 degrees Celsius which is then fed into the local district heating network.
This offers a year-round energy for an entire Finnish town of 12,000 residents, supplying hot water during the summer, and heating homes during the winter.
8. Venezuela
Venezuela holds 240 BTC, worth over $21 million at current prices.
9. Georgia
Georgia holds 66 BTC worth $5,9 million.
Apart from these countries, others might hold BTC without officially disclosing it, but hints pointed at the fact that Russia might also be a holder, and the Czech Republic as well.
According to the official data, more countries already have their Strategic BTC Reserves implemented ahead of the US official announcement as some of them have been quietly but steadily acquiring BTC.
